SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Padres have agreed to terms on a $2,705,000, one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Clayton Richard.

General manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement Monday.

The 28-year-old Richard was 5-9 with a 3.88 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 18 starts in 2011 before undergoing season-ending surgery on his left shoulder on July 29.

Richard is 24-20 with a 3.84 ERA since joining the Padres from the Chicago White Sox in July 2009.
The Padres now have only one arbitration-eligible player remaining in right-handed pitcher Dustin Moseley.

I heard on 1090 earlier the Padres are looking to pick up a veteran pitcher from FA. By that, I don't think they will sign Moseley anymore.

thats fine with me, Moseley is nothing special.
  3. SDSUBaseball
    Most likely a reliever
  4. Greeney03
Who do you guys have for starting pitchers so far?

    1. Timmy
    2. Volquez
    3. Luebke
    4. Richard
    5. Bass?

    thats what im guessing atm
  6. SDSUBaseball
Yup. Not in that order though

Not sure they're done....I wouldn't be shocked to see a SP addition before Feb....maybe even a shocker
  8. SDSUBaseball
They will add a reliever not a starter. There arent any shockers to be had.

    lmao, keep dreamin smack

What about Zach Duke, Doug Davis, Edwin Jackson or Brandon Webb?

Oswalt isn't as long as shot as you might think. He's not exactly being showered with offers, and a good year inside Petco could gain him the multi-year deal next year

and how would we afford a 1 yr 9 mil contract?...Hell, Moorad isnt in the clear, I doubt he is ponying up money for players atm.
  13. PadreFanForever
Seriously? Moorad's finances aren't the issue right now, it's the rest of the partners that are in question....and they have plenty coming in to cover team payroll to the tune of $55m-ish which isn't far from where it would be if Oswalt were floated a 4-6m contract since he's NOT getting 9m from anyone at this point
  14. xelance
no matter whos finances are in question, they are not going to get Oswalt, especially at a 4-6 mil contract.

Red Sox have offered both Edwin Jackson and Roy Oswalt contracts according to MLBTraderumors.com so Boston is definitely signing one of the two (which will be Jackson IMO)..I would welcome Brandon Webb with open arms if he returns to his old form, that would be a good arm to have in the rotation with experience to help out the younger players.

With Stauffer, Volquez, Luebke, Richard, Bass, and probably Moseley, with a couple of guys that might be ready by midseason, I don't see the Padres signing anyone and giving them a guaranteed spot.
  17. PadreFanForever
I doubt they would too, but the Padres could and should float the offer out there
